The 9th National Advanced Training Course of Cardiac Rehabilitation & Prevention China-US-Deutschland Cardiac Rehabilitation Forum
From May 22 to 26, the Ninth National Advanced Training Course of Cardiac Rehabilitation ＆ Prevention jointly sponsored by Cardiovascular Health Promotion and Rehabilitation Committee of Hunan Health Management Association, Cardiovascular Diseases Committee of Hunan Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Cardiac Rehabilitation Committee, Integrative Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and Cardiovascular Disease Rehabilitation Group, Cardiovascular Diseases Committee of Hunan Medical Association, organized by Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, and co-organized by Changsha Suixin Charity Foundation and “Famous Doctor, Famous Hospital and Famous Clinic Project” team of Department of Cardiology, Shenzhen Yantian District People’s Hospital, was grandly held in the beautiful city of Changsha. Famous cardiac rehabilitation experts from China, the United States and Germany gathered together to predict the development trend of cardiac rehabilitation, share their successful experience and build a high-level transnational and interdisciplinary communication platform for medical peers in China. At the same time, Germany-China Rehabilitation Association held a ceremony to appoint Prof. Liu Suixin, Director of the Department of Rehabilitation of Xiangya Hospital, consultant.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Wu Yongjian, Chair of Cardiac Rehabilitation Committee, Integrative Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Director of Coronary Heart Disease Center of Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Prof. Xiao Ping, Vice President of Hunan Health Management Association gave an opening speech on behalf of Hunan Health Management Association. With “consolidate foundation, broaden thinking and develop experience” as the theme, the conference consisted of five sections, Basic Theory Session, designed for the peers who plan to engage in or has just started cardiac rehabilitation to consolidate theoretical foundation and strengthen core techniques; Cardiac Rehabilitation Practice Session, in which participants intuitively observed and understood the cardiac rehabilitation procedures of Xiangya Hospital; Sino-U.S.-Germany Forum at which Chinese, American and German experts communicated face-to-face, broadened their thinking about how to start or accelerate development of cardiac rehabilitation by learning from domestic and foreign experience; Case Discussion Session in which theory was combined with practice to develop knowledge about cardiac rehabilitation; Cardiac Rehabilitation Workshop at which practical cardiac rehabilitation evaluation and therapy technique training was provided to speed up the implementation of cardiac rehabilitation programs.
At the conference, Prof. Randal J. Thomas and Prof. Thomas P. Olson shared the unique experience in cardiac rehabilitation of Mayo Clinic. Prof. Yuefei Liu and Prof. Jorg Schill shared the current development situation of cardiac rehabilitation in Germany and their experience. The members of the cardiac rehabilitation team led by Prof. Liu Suixin delivered speeches focusing on the future development. They shared without reservations their practical experience accumulated in the past 18 years and introduced in detail their achievements and latest progress in cardiac rehabilitation made by Xiangya Hospital. In the “Cardiac Rehabilitation Practice” and “Cardiac Rehabilitation Workshop” sessions, both good traditional practice and new techniques in cardiac rehabilitation were emphasized. Famous cardiac rehabilitation experts including Prof. Wang Guanglan, Prof. Wu Yongjian, Prof. Fan Zhiqing, Prof. Jiang Wei, Prof. Ji Peng, Prof. Sun Xiaoming, Prof. Zhang Guolin and representatives of the cardiac rehabilitation team of Xiangya Hospital, Cai Ying, Zhang Wenliang, Dong Lei, Dun Yaoshan, Xie Kangling, Deng Lihua, Qiu Ling, Chen Yixin, Leng Yi, Cao Zeng, Shen Yanan, Xie Murong, Zeng Deming, Sun Liming, Wang Ping, He Jingwen, spoke from different perspectives and elaborated on the theory and practice of cardiac rehabilitation. In the Case Discussion session, many scholars from all over the country shared typical and characteristic cases of cardiac rehabilitation in the form of case report, and had heated discussions.

A total of more than 300 participants from all over the country attended the conference. All of them listened to the speeches and lectures full of enthusiasm and said after the conclusion of the conference, “This conference is well-designed and wonderfully presented. Communicating face-to-face with the big shots in cardiac rehabilitation from home and abroad, we’ve learned a lot and expect more opportunities to attend conferences like this in the future.”
The Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Center of Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, was one of the first “cardiac rehabilitation training bases” in China. Led by Prof. Liu Suixin, it has gradually developed into the widely recognized “Xiangya Mode” of Cardiac Rehabilitation and formed cardiovascular disease prevention and rehabilitation system with featured techniques such as “anti-resistance training therapy for various cardiovascular diseases”, “first set of elastic band cardiac rehabilitative gymnastics”, “practical cardiac rehabilitation evaluation and therapy technique” and “second set of elastic band cardiac rehabilitative gymnastics”, etc.. It invited top international cardiac rehabilitation experts to five of its annual conferences for exchanges and experience sharing. It has secured an authoritative academic position in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and become one of the most influential cardiac rehabilitation training bases in China. The cardiac rehabilitation team of Xiangya Hospital will continue to keep pace with the times and strengthen international exchanges and cooperation to march towards a higher level.
